I belong to a “few” Disney related groups on Facebook. 😉 About this time last year, I saw a bunch of people posting about how they were hosting DisneySide Home Celebrations. Hey, if I can have an excuse to hold a Disney party without looking like a total loon, I’m there. Plus, after seeing the AWESOME kits they got last year, I knew I had to at least try to host one if I got the chance. So, this year, some wonderful person on one of the Facebook groups posted the link for the application to hold one of the Home Celebrations. Wohoo! Once I got into filling out the short application, I thought there was no way I would be selected. At that time I had a whopping 100 followers on Twitter (which I thought was awesome – until I saw people had thousands), and about 160 Facebook friends. My blog had been inactive for a year or so, so I didn’t even include it. There were also all kinds of questions about involvement in PTAs, school, church groups, etc. I answered “no” to pretty much all of them. So, at this point, I’m thinking there’s no way – but by the Grace of God – that I’m going to get picked.
Fast forward a couple of weeks, and the Facebook groups were abuzz with people waiting for e-mail notifications to find out if they were selected for a party. Imagine my surprise when I received the “Congratulations!” e-mail. It was like the whole Disney Moms Panel process all over again. (Which I will blog about another day). 🙂 I was so excited!
So, here’s how the DisneySide Home Celebration works. They send you a kit in the mail with all kinds of goodies to hold a party at your home. You then take pictures/video during the planning stages and the party itself, and post them on as many social media outlets as you’d like using the hashtag (I can’t believe I’m saying that, and am actually part of the Twitterverse now) “DisneySide” @Home Celebration. Super cool.
So now you’re asking yourself “what is this DisneySide thing I keep hearing about?” Well, your DisneySide is the part of you that comes out when you’re watching a Disney movie with your kids, or singing Let It Go for the millionth time. 😉 It’s skipping down Main Street USA in Magic Kingdom Park while singing Zip A Dee Do Dah (while your teen gives you a weird look). It’s your teenager getting just as excited for the trip to Walt Disney World as he did when he went for the first time at eight years old. So what’s my DisneySide? I’m six. Seriously. When it comes to Disney, and especially Walt Disney World, I’m six years old again. I get excited to see the Disney Princesses. I’m wearing my Minnie Mouse ears, or DisneyBounding as one of my favorite characters. I break loose of this whole being an “adult” thing. I’m free! I’m young again, and I don’t care what anyone else thinks. Now, be warned, if you show your DisneySide out there in the “real” world, people might think you’re nuts. Heck, they might even call the men in the white coats. 🙂 But, it’s worth it. We all need to take the time once in a while to be a kid again. I’m with Peter Pan. This grown up stuff is highly overrated.
So that’s it. I now sit in anticipation of the UPS e-mail saying that my kit has shipped. Once I get it I’ll definitely be sharing more. Until then, take time to show your DisneySide and embrace being a kid again! 🙂
